Massage Techniques

Effleurage

This technique is used to warmup, help with flushing, calm, relax and stimulate the tissues.

Petrissage

Commonly a deeper stroke that is used to seperate tissue which can help to loosen adhesions, as well as relaxing and stimulating the tissues.

​

Compression

Can be used to warmup tissue and help with flushing. It can also be used to deactivate hypertonic muscles and help to reduce muscle spasms.

​

Vibration & shaking

This is used to relax and stimulate the tissue as well as decreasing muscle hypertonicity.

​

Friction

A technique that is used to loosen tight  tissues. Encourages optimal repair of the soft tissues by breaking down adhesions and helps to build more mobile tissue.

​

Tapotement

This technique has multile purposes including: relaxing and stimulating of tissues, stimulating sensory recpetors, the skin and muscle contractions.

​

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)

Can help to restore muscle tone, improve range of motion, strengthen weak muscles as well as increasing joint mobility.

​

Soft Tissue Release (STR)

Helps the breaking down of fibrous ashesions, improves range of motion in the joints, promotion of optimal scar tissue in soft tissue injuries.

​

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT)

These techniques can increase ease and efficiency of movement, balance musculoskeletal and nervous systems and improved blood circulation.
